Jeff is a seasoned family law attorney with over 17 years of professional family law experience representing high net worth individuals in a wide range of matters, including divorce, custody, premarital and post-marital agreements, and cohabitation agreements. He is certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State of California Board of Legal Specialization.

Jeff has handled cases involving valuation of law practices, characterization and valuation of business/property interests, division of royalties and residuals for persons in the entertainment industry (actors, producers, directors, musicians), charitable remainder trusts, date of separation disputes, a probate court dispute arising from a marital dissolution proceeding, custody and visitation of minor children (including custody evaluations), requests to move outside of California with minor children, parentage (paternity), spousal support, child support (including high-wage earner matters and matters involving spendthrift trusts), domestic violence restraining orders, and contempt proceedings.

Jeff is equally comfortable litigating complex family law cases to completion and, when appropriate, guiding clients to a negotiated settlement. Jeff was recognized in September 2016 as co-appellate counsel in a published opinion by the California Court of Appeal in a complex matter involving an unlawful attempt to disqualify a judicial officer.

Prior to joining Barnett Law Group, Jeff was a senior associate at Hersh Mannis LLP, a highly regarded family law firm in Beverly Hills, where he practiced from 2009 through 2018. After law school, Jeff had a 2-year judicial clerkship with Honorable David P. Yaffe of the County of Los Angeles Superior Court in the Writs and Receivers Department. Shortly thereafter, Jeff exclusively devoted his professional career to the practice of family law.

Jeff as a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association – Family Law Executive Committee, served on the Mentorship Project and LACBA Child Colloquium sub-committees and was a panel speaker at the LACBA 53rd annual Family Law Symposium, “PPP Loans and SBA Loans: How the Pandemic Impacted Support Calculations and Business Valuations.” He has also served as pro bono counsel for clients of the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, which organization’s mission is to provide free legal services in family law matters for persons who cannot afford to hire private counsel. Jeff has volunteered as a Daily Settlement Officer for the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Education

Jeff is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in 1999, majoring in economics and political science. He received his law degree from Loyola Law School-Los Angeles in 2002 and was a member of the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society.
